2005 Chicago Footy Awards Retreat

At what some Chicagoans might consider vile detestable accommodations, this years best footballers (and a few questionable others) treated themselves to a weekend retreat at southern Illinois' Shady Acres Farm, far from the hustle and bustle of the big city atmosphere.

Well off the beaten track, the Acres is nothing more than a few odd ramshackle hunting shacks with a sorted indescribably makeshift and frankly dangerous amenities. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a World War II Japanese interment camp. Nonetheless, the trip organizer, Warrick Burgmann, who after further investigation admittedly won absolutely no awards, couldn't say enough about the place. "It's good to finally feel like I'm at home again!" claimed Burgmann, a native Australian. "Sanitation and security are clearly overrated." Burgmann continued, "I'm no stranger to the, wipe with your left, eat with your right technique."

Surprisingly, although the Chicago Australian Football Association is made up of mostly American players, none were present at the outing. Leaving an elitist feeling in the air from the all Australian and one Welshman entourage. It is unclear though just what these gentleman were really being commended for.

Brad Launikonis received much surprise from the others after his self proclaimed announcement as "Coach of the Year". Even more shocking was the award Jason Roberts took for the 2004 season. Apparently high honors come in the form of "Best and Fairest Drunk at Nationals". Deri Morgan, the groups only non-Australian, won the Best and Fairest award for the Chicago Sharks, a team that technically held only two legitimate matches in 2004.  Two members of the group, Al MacGlashan and Paul Drake, had some legitimacy to their awards, taking the Metro League Goal Scoring Leader and Captain of the Metro League Championship team, respectively.

"It's been kind of a formative year for the club." says Al MacGlashan "Besides I've been looking for a good excuse to spend some intimate quality time with a few of the boys. Keeping up appearances in Chicago, or America for that matter, is no small task."

After what I have seen this weekend from the supposed best of Chicago Australian Football, let's hope these guys make all efforts to manage their appearances for the 2005 football season, or my prdiction is, big trouble.
